Éiceo Launches Pilot Nature Credit Programme

It All Begins Here

Éiceo, an agri-environmental consultancy working at the intersection of agriculture, climate and natural capital, today announced the launch of a pilot nature credit programme in Ireland. The initiative aims to support farmers, landowners and businesses to participate in emerging environmental markets while delivering measurable climate, biodiversity and water outcomes.

Nature credits, including carbon, biodiversity and other ecosystem service credits, are part of a rapidly developing market that recognises and rewards land-based actions that restore ecosystems and sequester carbon. In Ireland, growing policy momentum, corporate climate commitments and increased focus on sustainable land use are driving demand for high-integrity, locally generated credits. However, access to these markets remains complex, with barriers around project design, verification and buyer confidence.

The Éiceo pilot programme is designed to address these challenges by providing an end-to-end framework that supports participants from initial feasibility through to credit generation and sale. The programme will focus on developing high-quality, scientifically robust projects that are grounded in practical farming systems and aligned with emerging standards.

“We see a significant opportunity for Irish farmers and landowners to play a central role in delivering climate and biodiversity outcomes, while also diversifying income streams,” said Michelle Barry, founder of Éiceo. “At the same time, businesses are seeking credible, transparent ways to invest in nature. This pilot is about connecting both sides of that market in a way that works in practice.”

Through the programme, participating farmers and landowners will receive support to assess the potential for natural capital projects on their land, implement management practices that enhance carbon storage and biodiversity, and navigate monitoring, reporting and verification requirements. Businesses will have the opportunity to engage early with a pipeline of high-integrity, locally developed credits aligned with their climate and sustainability strategies.

The pilot will also explore models for aggregation, community participation and long-term governance to ensure that benefits are shared and projects deliver lasting environmental and economic value.

Éiceo is now seeking expressions of interest from:

  • Farmers and landowners interested in developing carbon, biodiversity or ecosystem service projects

  • Businesses looking to purchase high-integrity, Irish-based nature credits

  • Stakeholders interested in supporting the development of scalable natural capital solutions

All interested parties are asked to register their interest via the contact form on the website.

“This is an important step in building a trusted, transparent nature credit market in Ireland,” Michelle added. “By working collaboratively across landowners, businesses and communities, we can create solutions that deliver real impact for climate, nature and rural economies.”
